Purpose of the Role

• To support the Legal Director in addressing the HQ and divisional-wide legal and insurance needs of the business, both within the UK and in Europe. This is a much broader business legal role than typical for a legal counsel reflecting the innovative multi-disciplinary approach of the business.

Key Accountabilities   

• Safety – Actively demonstrate support for the implementation of the Colas Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives.
• Profitability – Develop and deliver effective legal solutions and operate in line with legal process and policy to support the achievement of Colas Rail Ltd profitability metrics.
• Quality – Provide quality legal direction and support to the Business.  Deliver quality legal solutions in support of business goals.
• Respect – Treat people in a fair and consistent way.  Consistently strive to understand client’s needs and requirement.

Key Tasks    

• Support the Legal Director in addressing the legal needs of the business across a spectrum of legal areas including corporate, commercial, competition, procurement, employment and construction
• Support the Legal Director and European Development Director in the contractual aspects of tendering activities throughout Europe
• Liaise with Corporate HQ in Paris with regards to PCG’s and bonds
• Support the Legal Director and UK Business Development Director in developing the use of strategic alliances and target cost arrangements
• Lead on all litigation issues faced by the businesses
• Lead on all insurance matters faced by the business and liaise between divisions, corporate HQ, brokers and loss adjusters so claims are vigorously defended

Candidate Profile

• A junior lawyer with good commercial experience
• Experience of the infrastructure sector being advantageous
• Previous experience of insurance and/or procurement advantageous
• Dual-qualification and language skills advantageous
