East London Line Station Works
London, United Kingdom (9 April 2008)
Network Rail has awarded Colas Rail a £15 million contract
for the West Croydon, Crystal Palace and South Croydon on-network implementation
works. This contract is due for completion in February 2009 and will form part
of the new East London Line.
At Crystal Palace, Colas Rail is responsible for the reinstatement of an island
platform and associated changes to the permanent way, third rail
electrification, signalling and telecomms and mechanical and electrical works
whilst at West Croydon, it will undertake the extension of an existing platform
and alterations to the permanent way, signalling & telecomms, third rail
electrification and M&E services.
Although not part of the East London Line route, a turn-back facility at South
Croydon needs to be built to provide operational flexibility to both the East
London Line operator and the existing train operator, Southern Trains. Colas
Rail will deliver all of the permanent way works, together with the necessary
changes to the signalling and third rail electrification.
In addition to the on-site works, Colas Rail will also undertake the alterations
to the systems in London Bridge, London Victoria and Three Bridges Signal Boxes.
Charles-Albert Giral, CEO of Colas Rail commented on this award. “Colas Rail is
delighted to be actively involved in the creation of the London Overground
Network. I very much hope that this contract will become one of our flag-ship
projects in terms of safety performance, quality delivery and profitability. .
