Colas Rail Launches Refurbished Class 47’s
London, United Kingdom (24 September 2007) – Colas Rail unveiled and officially named its newly refurbished Class 47’s on Thursday 20th September at Eastleigh works.
These two engines have recently undergone an intermediate overhaul with the electrical, hydrostatic, air break and coolant systems having been renewed/overhauled, the generators all cleaned and new AWS and OTMR equipment fitted. Both locomotives have also been fitted with a Blue Star 27 way multiple-working jumpers which allow them to work together. Externally the locomotives have had a complete overhaul with various bodywork repairs having been undertaken and the new livery applied.
The company has purchased a total of four Class 47 locomotives and these will be used on the RHTT contracts, for the haulage of tamping machines and ballast cleaners and for freight runs as and when needed.
Locomotive 47727 has been named Rebecca (one of the characters from Daphne Du Maurier) whilst 47749 became Demelza). These names are both of Cornish origin which is where the locomotives first and this was felt to be appropriate as their first contracts will be working on the Cornish RHTT contract based in Parr in Cornwall.
