Colas Rail was formed in
2007 merging the activities
of AMEC SPIE Rail and Seco
Rail. In December 2007, with
the acquisition of Carillion
plant, its railway
activities increased
substantially further.
Colas Rail is the owner
of the largest fleet of
modern on-track plant in the
UK comprising S&C,
plain-line and Compact
tampers, a medium output
ballast cleaning system and
a ballast regulator. The
company has recently signed
an agreement with Plasser
and Theurer for the purchase
of 2 x 08 4x4/4S-RT Unimats
to increase its fleet
further and these will be
delivered to the UK in 2010
Founded in 1934 Colas Rail
(previously Seco Rail)
operated the first
mechanised ballast cleaning
system on the French
railways. As the company has
grown and developed, plant
has continued to play a
major part in the
development. The year 2007
saw the first commercial
freight operations both in
the UK and in France and is
now a recognized national
freight operator offering a
full range of services and
supported by a 24 hour
control centre based at
Rugby.
