  Project Highlights

Crewe to Weaver Junction is an important section on the busy West Coast Mainline. It is heavily used by both Train Operators, including Virgin and is equally important for Freight Operators, providing an important artery to Scotland.

The prime objective of this contract is to relieve congestion by re-modelling the railway infrastructure in the Crewe area.

  Project Description

The work is programmed in two distinct stages (key milestones) comprising a mix of permanent way, drainage, overhead line, mechanical and electrical, including a complete renewal of the plain line and re-modelling of the S&C.

Associated with the work is track re-alignment, installation of block joints, OHLE wire re-registration and upgrading to suit the new line layout, and cess works as required for safety or compliance to standards.

The challenge is to undertake the renewal and re-modelling works within weekend possessions and to ensure the infrastructure is handed back in time for normal timetable operations.

The S&C comprises a number of variable types of complex layouts.

The Crewe Weaver project was completed at the end of 2008.
