WARE Ltd appointed AMEC Group Ltd and Colas Rail Ltd to construct and make available the Woolwich Arsenal extension infrastructure for the operation of trains in February 2009. Colas Rail was responsible for the construction of the total railway system and ongoing maintenance.

The route of the DLR WAE is 2.5 km in length and runs in twin bored tunnels from the King George V station in North Woolwich where it descends into a tunnel beneath the River Thames to resurface in Woolwich.
