Sandbach to Wilmslow, Part 1

The purpose of this project was to enable Network Rail to provide additional capacity by upgrading the infrastructure that was considered to be approaching life expiry.

This was the first project in the UK to successfully commission a computer-based interlocking system at Cheadle’s Hume junction.

Colas Rail Ltd, formally AMEC SPIE Rail, was awarded an Environmental Award (Alliance Category) by Network Rail in 2004 for the Route 7 project.
