West Anglia Route Modernisation

Generally considered to be the most successful alliance of its type in the UK, the WARM (West Anglia Route Modernisation) Alliance was a five-way Alliance with full in-house design and construct expertise. The Alliance focused on the re-signalling and upgrading of the commuter lines North-East of London in the Anglia zone.

The WARM Alliance was unusually successful in delivering and commissioning successive stages of the project.

The scope of the project was design development, implementation, test and commission, covering re-signalling, replacement of life-expired equipment including permanent way, overhead line equipment, telecoms, mechanical and electrical and associated civil work.

Within the Alliance, Colas Rail Ltd had responsibility for the catenary system and traction power supply.

Phase 1, the design and development stage, started in June 1999 and Phase 2, the detailed design and implementation stage (consisting of five geographical commissioning stages), started in December 1999.
