Purpose of job
To control, direct, supervise,
co-ordinate, monitor and guide the
engineering activities on the
project. To achieve a co-ordinated
design meeting all Contract and
Statutory requirements.
Project overview
Infrastructure construction
activities for Network Rail as part
on the East London Line Project. The
sites include West Croydon, Crystal
Palace & South Croydon. The project
is part of the works necessary for
the new East London Line Overground
Railway.
The West Croydon, Crystal Palace &
South Croydon Work comprises the
provision of:
• New island platform & platform
extensions
• Various civils work including the
provision of a new mess and rest
room.
• P/Way Plain line & renewals
• Track, foul and surface water
drainage
• New, replacement and relocation of
signalling & modifications to
interlocking & SCC panels
• New and modified telephone
concentrators, CCTV, DOO & DNO works
• Cable, troughing and UTX works
• Points heaters and power supplies
• 2 No new MIP lifts and associated
shafts
Key responsibilities are:
• Advise the Project Manager on all
engineering matters, highlighting
any potential problem areas and
identifying solutions.
• Liaise with the Client's senior
engineering personnel in particular
the Engineering Manager on all
engineering matters.
• Hold regular Design Review
meetings with Lead Engineers.
• Liaise with Project Services on
planning and cost issues and ensure
full participation in implementation
of project quality plan.
• Ensure the implementation of
applicable engineering procedures to
meet job priorities and changes as
directed by the Project Manager.
• Ensure design studies,
material/equipment requisitions,
specifications and drawings are
reviewed as necessary by Project
Engineers/Co-ordinators and Chief
Engineers.
• Ensure interface liaison occurs
between Construction Sites,
Engineering Disciplines, Project
Engineers and Coordinators,
Maintenance and Operations
Supervisors, such that a fully
integrated design results.
• Liaise with Corporate Engineering
Management to ensure adequate
resource with required quality is
available to meet project
requirements.
• Participate in Colas Rail safety
audits and technical reviews for the
project.
• To read, understand and implement
the Company Safety Policy and the
arrangements described in the
Company and Safety Management System
documents.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge
and Experience
• An experienced multi disciplinary
Engineer with extensive knowledge of
Colas Rail Ltd procedures and
personnel as well as rail and Civil
related projects. He must be self
motivated and able to effectively
lead the engineers team on the
Project. He must also be capable of
interfacing with Colas Rail and
Client senior personnel in an
effective manner to achieve project
technical objectives.

Other information
• Engineering degree and Chartered
Civil Engineer with thorough
knowledge of infrastructure design,
construction, operation and
maintenance. Experience of business
management at infrastructure level
and the management of change.
• Previous experience in either an
M&EE or Rail background is
essential, as is working on projects
of a value of £20 million+.
