Position:- Principal Signalling Designer
Location:- Wimbledon, South London
Reporting to:- Engineering Manager
Ref:- SRB5
Purpose of job
To produce and independently check Signalling Design details broadly in the form of Scheme / Signalling plans, Control Tables, location diagrams, cable core plans, power schematics and interlocking wiring produced under his / her control ensuring adherence to all AMEC SPIE Rail and Client Standards. The post has responsibility for co-ordinating the work of others within the Signalling Design function. The post holder will also be required to make recommendations when assessing the workload and career planning and development of other Signalling Design group members.
Key accountabilities
• The post holder will be required to act as mentor to other less experienced or junior engineers within the group...
• Responsible for the preparation or final review of Outline Project and Signalling Design Specifications.
• To produce or independently review pre feasibility and feasibility reports and present any fundamental findings of the report to the client.
• To assist with Signalling infrastructure condition assessment surveys and site surveys and act as department liaison when other engineering disciplines and client representatives are involved...
• Act as department representative when providing design cover of signalling projects during the commissioning phase. Assist with Testing and Commissioning when required
• Supervise the design issue documentation and the updating and maintenance of technical records as required.
• Lead other staff and engineering disciplines on matters relating to Signalling design issues...
• Provide Signalling Design estimates; technical expertise and input for signalling related proposals for new projects during feasibility and final detailed design stage.
• Represent the company at client meetings.
• To deputise for the Engineering Manager as required (experience permitting).
• Assist with bids and tender opportunities throughout the UK, for which they may be utilised.
• To ensure that the signalling design is delivered in compliance with the appropriate Standards in a safe, quality and cost effective way
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum of HNC/Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
• At least 15 years experience within the Signal Engineering Industry, including at least 8 years senior design experience and holding IRSE Principles Designer (1.1.150D) and Design Verifier (1.1.160) Licence
• Membership of IET desirable
• Membership of IRSE essential
• Management and use of appropriate CAD design packages.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety issues.
• Sound working knowledge of main rail industry
