Wessex Capacity Alliance

You are here:

A collaboration between Colas Rail Ltd, Skanska, Mott MacDonald, AECOM and Network Rail delivering circa £400million of improvements for a bigger, better London Waterloo, the UK’s busiest railway station.

As one of the collaborating companies, we were recognised as showing behavioural qualities that worked within this project, one that stepped away from the tradition of awarding an adversarial contract. This Alliance required people joined in common business outputs, a culture focused on solutions and collaborative innovation and the ability to operate effectively in an alliance environment.
The investment will be used to rebuild the former Waterloo International Terminal, allowing platforms 20-24 to be brought back into use with modern facilities, new track, signalling and a layout to cope with thousands of domestic passengers. Extending platforms 1-4 will allow ten-car trains to run to London suburban stations. The works being carried out will benefit passengers, creating a modern and accessible station concourse.
The Wessex Capacity Alliance is also delivering improvements to Vauxhall station to relieve train and passenger congestion Improvements to track and rail systems along the Windsor lines.
